Kachina dolls

  • What is the age of this kachina doll?http://www.mycollectionsite.com/0538_1_md.jpg To see picture go to the aforemntioned address.

  • I don't see how anyone could tell you an age simply by looking at a picture but if I had to guess I'd say it looks an awfully like some "Kachina" or "Tihu" dollas made by Hopi Indians in northeast Arizona around 1920 (or there about). Regards; tutuzdad-ga

  • It may also be a representation of Talavai (the Early Morning Singer Kachina) also called "The Silent Kachina", and could date back as early as the late 1800's. Here's a photo of one that I managed to find: Talavai http://www.umma.lsa.umich.edu/Ethnology/Kachina/room-2/25452-small.JPG tutuzdad-ga
